TANGAIL TB & LEPROSY CONTROL

The project covers 3 districts with a population of 7,8 million inhabitants. Combined TB and Leprosy services are provided through 34 clinics. Advocacy, Social Mobilization and contact investigation are regular activities for creating mass awareness and finding patients. The project also runs a hospital at Jalchatra.

Our partner in the field is the Damien Foundation. 3,638 new cases were detected. Among them, 1,623 women and 210 children. 252 individuals were already disabled at the time of their diagnosis of leprosy.

NINE projects and 4 partners

India is divided into 29 states. Our projects are located in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. Activities include early detection, treatments, outpatient and inpatient clinics, reconstructive surgery to improve functional capacities, disability care services, community awareness to reduce stigma, and empowerment of people affected by leprosy. These projects cover all three strategic goals: Zero Transmission, Zero Disabilities, and Zero Discrimination.

Our partners in the field are the Damien Foundation, DAHW, Lepra, and Women in Need. Countrywide, 114,451 new cases were detected. Among them, 44,877 women and 7,859 children. 2,761 individuals were already disabled at the time of their diagnosis of leprosy. India is the country with the highest prevalence of leprosy in the world.

Nepal

Transmission of leprosy to children in Nepal is an indicator that the disease is still actively being transmitted through communities. There is an urgent need to reinforce the supply and use of health services to stop the spread of the disease, prevent disability and rehabilitate those affected.

Our partner in the field is Fairmed. 2,394 new cases were detected in 2021. Among them, there was many children. A few individuals were already disabled at the time of their diagnosis of leprosy.
